(BMJ)—A 79-yo man presented w/ a 6-mo hx of an asymptomatic, slowly growing lesion on his cheek. Imaging and histology confirmed the dx. What is it?
Odontogenic cutaneous sinus
Basal cell carcinoma
Cutaneous tuberculosis
Pyoderma gangrenosum
Actinomycosis
You are correct. Panoramic x-ray confirmed the presence of a sinus tract arising from a chronically infected tooth. Histology was negative for CA. This case highlights the importance of intraoral examination in pts w/ nonhealing cutaneous lesions over the distribution of the dental roots. The pt underwent tooth extraction and received PO abx, and the lesion healed w/ residual scarring.
