Key Points
Chemotherapy extravasation remains a complication of chemotherapy admin & may result in serious harm to pts. Vesicants: Meds that may cause severe/irreversible tissue injury & necrosis when extravasated. Irritants: Meds that can cause local inflammatory rxn when extravasated. Education & training of the oncology team for prevention & prompt pharmacological & non-pharmacological mgmt of extravasation is key to minimizing long-term sequelae.
