CDC and FDA investigate Listeria infections from Fresh & Ready Foods
May 13, 2025

CDC and FDA are investigating a multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to ready-to-eat foods produced by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC. As of May 9, 2025, ten people from two states have been infected, all of whom have been hospitalized. FDA and CDC began investigating this cluster in 2024; however, there was not enough evidence in the previous investigation to identify a source for the outbreak. The investigation was reopened in April 2025 after FDA investigators found Listeria in environmental samples collected from Fresh & Ready Foods LLC during a routine surveillance inspection. The recalled products include sandwiches and protein snacks, and consumers are advised not to eat or serve these items.
The outbreak has primarily affected older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Public health officials are collecting data from sick individuals to identify the source of the contamination. The investigation is ongoing, and consumers are urged to follow safe handling and cleaning practices to prevent cross-contamination. No deaths have been reported, but the true number of sick individuals may be higher than reported.
