Serious Neuropsychiatric Events
highly variable serious rxns reported incl, but not limited to agitation, aggression, depression, sleep disturbances, anxiousness, disorientation, attention disturbance, dysphemia, hallucinations, irritability, memory impairment, obsessive compulsive sx, restlessness, somnambulism, tic, tremor, suicidal thoughts and behavior, and suicide; events reported in adult, adolescent, and ped pts w/ and w/o hx of psychiatric disorder; events reported mostly during tx, but some seen after D/C; neuropsychiatric mechanism not well understood; benefits of tx may not outweigh risks, esp. in pts w/ mild dz sx and adequately treated w/ alternative tx; for allergic rhinitis pts, reserve tx for pts w/ inadequate response or intolerance to alternative tx; for asthma or exercise-induced bronchoconstriction pts, consider benefits vs. risks before prescribing; discuss potential benefits vs. risks of tx w/ pts and caregivers; advise pts and caregivers of need for close observation; if behavior changes, new neuropsychiatric sx, or suicidal thoughts/behavior occur, D/C tx immediately and contact provider; continue to monitor s/sx and provide supportive care until sx resolve
