(BMJ)—An 8-yo boy from an industrialized city in Romania presented w/ itchy red papules on his L cheek. He had spent 2mo of summer holidays in a rural village playing w/ cats and dogs. Exam: serpiginous, red papules on L face and chin. Labs: unremarkable. What is the dx?

You are correct. Cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) is common in children in tropical and subtropical countries but exceptionally rare in temperate zones. Dx of CLM is mostly clinical. A therapeutic trial was started w/ albendazole for 5 days. At 2wk, the pruritus and lesions disappeared, and a slight hyperpigmentation and scattered papules remained. At 3-mo f/u, slight erythema and xerosis were still present.
