ACOG ends decades-long partnership with CDC vaccine advisory committee amid concerns over scientific integrity

On February 24, 2026, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) announced its withdrawal as a liaison organization from the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). ACOG President Steven J. Fleischman, MD, cited concerns over recent committee reconstitution, removal of ACOG experts from workgroups, and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unilaterally changing vaccine recommendations without following established scientific processes. The organization stated that ACIP has recently ignored peer-reviewed vaccine safety reports and shared presentations with cherry-picked data lacking appropriate context. ACOG emphasized that its withdrawal does not diminish its commitment to vaccine science and that it will continue to develop independent, evidence-based immunization guidance for ob‑gyns in collaboration with other medical organizations.
