'Boy Meets World' star Danielle Fishel diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer
Danielle Fishel, 43, who gained popularity playing Topanga Lawrence on the hit 90s sitcom Boy Meets World, shared that she was recently diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
“It is very, very, very early. It’s technically stage zero. I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS with micro invasion. I’m going to be fine. I’m having surgery to remove it,” she said on the August 19 episode of her podcast, Pod Meets World, which she cohosts with Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
Fishel said the cancer was caught early because she received a reminder for her yearly mammogram, so she scheduled the appointment. She added that she felt it was important to share her diagnosis in the hopes that it would encourage others to have regular check-up appointments.
