CDC: New cluster of tecovirimat-resistant mpox cases detected in 5 states

Tecovirimat, the primary treatment for orthopoxvirus infections like smallpox and mpox, can become ineffective due to viral mutations. A new cluster of tecovirimat-resistant mpox cases was found in five U.S. states among individuals without prior tecovirimat treatment. Routine genetic surveillance is essential to detect and monitor resistance.
