CDC reports vaccination rates for healthcare personnel from 2023–24 season
November 5, 2024

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends annual influenza vaccination for healthcare personnel and, as of September 2023, has extended this recommendation to include the 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine for all individuals ages six months and older. An analysis of vaccination coverage during the 2023–24 respiratory virus season revealed that 80.7% of personnel in acute care hospitals received the influenza vaccine, while only 45.4% of nursing home staff were vaccinated. In terms of the COVID-19 vaccine, coverage was significantly lower, with 15.3% of acute care hospital personnel and 10.5% of nursing home staff receiving the 2023–2024 vaccine.
These findings underscore the importance of vaccination in mitigating the risks associated with respiratory viral diseases in healthcare settings. Vaccination not only protects healthcare workers but also enhances the overall resilience of the healthcare system. Continued efforts to improve vaccination rates among healthcare personnel are essential for maintaining a healthy workforce and safeguarding public health.
