CDC: Rising racial disparities in intimate partner homicides amid pandemic
September 5, 2024

The COVID-19 pandemic raised concerns about a potential rise in intimate partner violence, which disproportionately affects women. A new CDC report found that while the overall rate of intimate partner homicides among women remained stable from 2018-2019 to 2020-2021, there was an increase in the proportion of non-Hispanic Black or African American female victims during the latter period. Additionally, suspects were more often previously known to law enforcement. Findings underscore the need for prevention strategies and further research into factors influencing intimate partner violence.
