Digital app launches for the treatment of type 2 diabetes
Better Therapeutics recently announced that U.S. clinicians are now free to prescribe AspyreRx to their patients with T2DM who are 18 and older. Patients can download the app to their smartphones.
The digital therapeutic delivers a form of cognitive behavioral therapy designed to help patients understand how behavioral changes (e.g., regular therapy sessions, skill-building lessons, and goal check-ins) can improve their blood sugar levels and other health outcomes (Park, 2023).
The program is backed by an RCT that demonstrated significant reductions in A1c at 90 and 180 days vs. the standard of care control group. The RCT also resulted in significant improvements in blood pressure, weight, mood, and quality of life, along with reduced medication utilization and fewer adverse events compared with the control group (Business Wire, 2023).
