FDA announces shelf-life extension for naloxone (Narcan) nasal spray

On January 17, 2024, FDA announced that Emergent BioSolutions, the manufacturer of naloxone (Narcan), extended the shelf-life of newly manufactured Narcan 4-mg nasal spray products from three to four years. The extension applies only to Narcan 4-mg products produced following this announcement. Shelf-life of products that were produced and distributed prior to the announcement is not affected and remains unchanged. Prescribers, patients, and caregivers are advised to continue to abide by the expiration date printed on each product’s packaging and labeling.
