McDonald’s to resume selling Quarter Pounders in all restaurants
October 29, 2024

The company's decision to resume Quarter Pounder sales follows the Colorado Department of Agriculture’s confirmation that the burger's beef patties tested negative for E. coli. After reviewing data from the CDC and its own supply chain, McDonald’s released a press announcement expressing confidence that beef patties were not the source of the contamination (CDA, 2024; McDonald's, 2024).
A specific ingredient has not yet been confirmed as the source of the outbreak, although the FDA previously suspected either the Quarter Pounder's slivered onions or beef patties as the likely source. McDonald's said it has indefinitely ceased sourcing onions from Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility, which is suspected of supplying the contaminated onions. Investigations by CDC and FDA are ongoing (McDonald’s, 2024; Watson, 2024).
