Neuralink cleared by FDA to implant brain chip into second patient
May 24, 2024

Elon Musk’s human tech startup Neuralink received approval from FDA to implant a brain chip into a second patient after it proposed to fix a malfunction that occurred with its first human patient, 29-year-old Noland Arbaugh. Neuralink says that some data was lost because a number of the implant’s threads that had been placed in Arbaugh’s brain retracted unexpectedly. The company plans to implant its device into the second patient in June and a total of 10 people this year, noting that more than 1,000 quadriplegic patients had signed up for its registry.
