Smartphone cognitive behavioral therapy lessened anxiety symptoms

December 17, 2025

In a fully remote randomized trial (NCT05748652), 351 adults with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD‑7 scores ≥15) received either a self‑paced smartphone‑delivered digital CBT (DCBT) program or an online psychoeducation control over 10 weeks. The DCBT group had significantly greater reductions in anxiety severity and higher remission rates at both 10 and 24 weeks. Over 70% achieved remission by week 10—more than double the psychoeducation group—and these gains persisted through week 24.

Clinical takeaway: Consider DCBT as a scalable, evidence‑based option to help bridge the treatment gap for patients with moderate to severe generalized anxiety disorder.
