Study forecasts surge in global cancer burden in men by 2050
August 14, 2024

A comprehensive analysis predicted a rise in cancer among men globally, with projections showing a potential doubling of cases and deaths by 2050. The study calls for urgent improvements in health infrastructure and access to reduce these disparities.
- Estimates from the 2022 Global Cancer Observatory (GLOBOCAN) served as the basis for analyzing cancer statistics in men, covering 185 countries/territories.
- In 2022, men aged 65 years and older and those from countries with a low Human Development Index (HDI) exhibited high mortality-to-incidence ratios, indicating poor survival rates.
- Projections suggest a significant increase in cancer cases (from 10.3 million to 19 million; ≥84%) and deaths (from 5.4 million to 10.5 million; ≥93%) by 2050, particularly affecting older men and those in low- to medium-HDI countries.
