Updated COVID-19 vaccines linked to decreased pediatric ED visits
December 16, 2025

Following ACIP’s June 2024 recommendation for universal vaccination (≥6 months), investigators used a test-negative case-control design within CDC’s nine-state VISION network to assess vaccine effectiveness (VE) against COVID-19–related ED/urgent care visits from August 2024 to September 2025. VE was 76% (95% confidence interval [CI], 58%–87%) for children aged 9 months to 4 years and 56% (95% CI, 35%–70%) for ages 5 to 17 during the first 7 to 179 days post-dose.
